As the annual inspection approaches, I need to replace cat. to get rid of CEL -- yes, the code points to cat. Any DIY advice is greatly appreciated.

Has anyone used jackstands in the rear of the car? Volvospeed shows only the jacking points in the front. Thanks for any advice.

I had rather good experience with the Volvo dealer in Cary, NC. They even checked the computer codes for me for free twice already. I haven't had much work done there (other than a brake job when I first bought the car) because of their Volvo-level pricing.

As I browse on the Internet, I see some catalytic converter cleaner . Has anyone used that type of thing? Cat. cleaner doesn't do harm to the expensive Volvo parts, does it? If not, I'll give it a try.

Thanks for all the responses. The crack pattern shows that Jot is correct about the fender being slight bent. I didn't notice it when I bought the car. I'll try AJU's bracket solution as well as some fiberglass patch for the liner.

Well, I did screw on the cap with the oil sign upside down when I changed the oil last time. I put on the cap with the oil sign up right yesterday and didn't see much further oil spill after one day's driving. I replaced the gasket anyway. Maybe over time, the gasket deforms and should be screwed on...
