Re: 1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Considering a Restoration

Thx for the feedback. I'm going to tackle the minor cosmetic stuff first as one responder suggested and focus my money on the mechanical side.

1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Considering a Restoration

So, here's my Volvo story. Bought new in 1998. Drove it for 10 years and then entrusted it to my two sons during their high school years. It made it through their abuse but now is looking like it could use a restoration. New carpet, mats, leather for seats, inside door panels, headliner, gear shift ...

Re: 1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Timing Belt Tensioner - Failed bear

I'm in the Modesto, CA area. Thanks to some of the replies I received to my questions I confirmed that a compression test was done and there is no damage to the engine or valves. I also talked with a co-worker and he pointed me in the direction of another mechanic that is semi-retired and has a smal...

Re: 1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Timing Belt Tensioner - Failed bear

Timing belt was changed at 60k several years ago. I appreciate the responses. I'm leaning to getting it done but just not sure that I couldn't get by with just the belt and tensioner.

1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Timing Belt Tensioner - Failed bearing

I'm looking for some advice. I'm not a mechanic so it's hard for me to determine whether all of this work is necessary and fairly priced. My son drives this car now and yesterday when he started it the engine was rattling so loudly that I told him to shut it down and I had it towed to a repair shop ...

Re: 1998 S70 GLT - Worth Repairing?

I appreciate the replies. Since my post yesterday the repairshop and I have located some used parts that will reduce my cost to repair. The car still drove well after the wreck, nothing was leaking, but it looked bad. probably the shock from seeing my car with a smashed up front.

1998 S70 GLT - Worth Repairing?

Well, I took a chance and let my 16-year-old son drive my Volvo to and from school. Long story short, he wasn't paying attention at a stoplight and rear-ended a truck with a very strong steel bumper. He said that he took his foot off of the brake and looked to the right to switch lanes and the truck...

Re: Check Engine Light!

Would failure of this pump lessen gas mileage or cause other problems if left likeit is? I read somewhere else that I can unhook the battery and the check engine light would go off for a while, at least until I can take it back to the smog check station. ANy advice?

Check Engine Light!

I've been battling this for a year or more now. Had diagnostics done and it indicated that a thermostat sensor was the cause. Replaced the sensor and light went off. A week or so later I put gas in and the light came back on. I checked the gas cap. It was on tight and is not cracked. So I've been dr...
