Re: '97 850 No Start No Crank

If I were in this situation, I would check the cable and connections between the battery and the starter for tightness and cleanliness, and then measure the voltage at the starter solenoid during cranking to make sure you were getting battery voltage at the starter. If you are getting good voltage a...

If you haven't done it already, it might be a good idea to test the system with a jumper wire between #87 and #15 on the fuel pump relay socket -- that will rule out the fuel pump relay which has a high failure rate. It looks like you have already read through this excellent summary from cn90: https...

Yes, I'm sure the gap on my clutch grew. In 2010 I reset it to be within spec, and then I didn't monitor it regularly because the system was running fine for a decade, but after 10 years I'd estimate it grew from about 0.4mm to about 0.8mm on average, an increase of about 0.4mm. You should be in good shape if you replace the hose and get a good seal to the remaining piece of metal pipe. That metal pipe runs all the way over to the other end of the engine to the fuel pressure regulator.

Oil is getting onto the exhaust manifold near the front of the engine (timing belt area). I'm not sure if it's dripping down from above or being flung upwards from below. Re: 93 850 the dreaded warm start problems, cranks but no start Topic is solved

Good luck. It sounds like you have checked a lot of things and already replaced a lot of the parts that are the "usual suspects". As for the coil, one check would be to disconnect the wires and measure the resistance of the low and high sides during the time that the car will not start. According th...

On our 850, the noise is loudest when you step on the gas a little bit. It sounds like a ghostly moan. After the car warms up, the sound goes away. I have a '97 850, so this may not apply to your situation, but I recall thinking I had a belt whine when it turned out to be a noise from the oil thermostat. Tricky! It should pull directly out, but the rings and spacers are probably preventing it from releasing.
If you have a pair of panel clip pliers, those might allow you to get it out.

It looks like D4 overheated and failed. I wonder if there is a schematic diagram available for this unit? That would be a great help in troubleshooting. Until you figure out what caused the failure and fix it, it's risky to put in a known good ECC unit because it might fail too.

At least on my '97 855, you have to remove the panel underneath the dash to get access to some of them, such as the recirculation damper and the vent direction controls (face or footwell). On the V70, I don't know which damper motor controls the heater/vent/defrost function.

Re: 94 850 crank no spark

Agreed with the words of the master above.
It might be a good idea also to check if the fuel pump is coming on (usually there is a sound from the fuel pump priming when you turn the key just before starting) and if you're getting fuel pressure to the fuel injector rail.

Re: Repeated blower motor resistor failures

A few years back I measured the current draw of a new versus an old (squeaky) Behr blower and found that the old blower drew about half an amp (or 5%) more current at 8V compared to the new one. You could measure your blower and compare the current draw to see if it really is drawing more current th...

I had good luck buying the fuel pump relay capacitors from DigiKey. For small orders they will ship good old USPS for a reasonable price (I think it was $2 or $3 for postage). Interesting problem. I agree with Robert on checking the relays.
You've probably already checked these things:
-- re-install the old original ECC... can you get a read out from B1?
-- check the wiring and connectors to make sure they're not damaged. Are you getting voltage to the fan pins?

Re: 97 855 GLT EEC Trouble code help Topic is solved

I'm not sure about the Ventilation Damper. For the driver's side damper motor, the gear angle was about at the middle of it's range. Photo here:

Re: Rear windshield washer pump

I had this same problem about 3 years ago -- working pump but no fluid at the rear nozzle.
In my case the lack of fluid was due to a malfunctioning check valve near the rear window nozzle. I removed the check valve and it has been working OK since.

I took a look at the front left corner of our 97 855 GLT wagon. It has the same connector as your picture. The wires are headed towards the windshield washer pumps.

Re: 97 855 GLT EEC Trouble code help Topic is solved

I had good luck with two of my original dampers -- cleaning the carbon tracks restored normal operation. I tried cleaning the third one but it wouldn't work correctly. I had to replace it with a spare, which has been working fine for a couple years so far.

Would you post a photo of the blue sensor?
