No one knows if the codes remain after a battery disconnection?

What is the sensor and plug located just before the throttle body on the intake tube of an X70 turbo car? The sensor is just pushed in, with an electical connector right next to it.

Thanks for the links, they were very helpful. I just have a tiny bit of residue on the bottom of the cooler, hopfully it is just the seal. Well, it was the alternator. I replaced it (fairly easy job), and all is well. Battery reads 13.8v when the car is running now, 12.7 when it is off. Just bad luck, I guess.
