What is an ignition power stage?

I'm 4,000 miles into a cross country trip 3,700 since these spontaneous shutdowns have been occurring. Without any warning, the engine loses power and stalls. Just installed a rebuilt Steering Rack (cam type) and as soon as I start the engine the wheel flies to the right all the way and I have to fight it back to center or left. What gives??

Out of the blue my 850 can't be shifted out of neutral. I tried the manual shiftlock procedure as per the owners manual and that won't work either. Where do I start troubleshooting? "Darn new fangled cars!"

So there isn't a common point where leads branch off to each door-lock that's easily accessible? I was hoping to avoid taking the door panel off first thing.
