Thanks for the info. I drove the car a bit more today and realized that if I press down just a bit harder on the brake pedal, the switch will activate and release the shift selector. Maybe I just got used to driving the toyota while it was in the shop...or maybe when they moved my seat, I was sittin...

shift lock problem - what is the deal?

Hi, I just had a shop R&R the tranny for me (95 850 glt nonturbo) and now about 80% of the time, I have to press the shift lock override button to shift out of park. What is the fix for this? How could replacing the tranny cause this if the switch is in the center console? Is there another compo...

If you can't get the tape out and do decide to replace the unit, ebay has great prices on the factory tape decks. Prices for the CD units are a lot higher, but I've seen tape decks for 50 bucks or so.

Also, you might check ebay for a glove box locking mechanism. I think I've seen them on there.

You can have a leaky head gasket without oil and coolant mixing. Sometimes coolant will leak between 2 cylinders and be burned up by the exhaust. Sometimes it will seep out between the head and block. It doesn't always mix with the oil - esp. if it's a small leak. Also, if you are using a cup or two...

Tailgate rattle

Hi, My 850 wagon tailgate trim rattles - I'm trying to disassemble the trim without breaking any of the plastic clips. How do you get the upper brake light piece off without breaking it? Is it just one little cover, or do you take the whole plastic peice off (the one that runs lengthwise across the ...

When you say your radiator is not working, do you actually mean that your car is using coolant? Maybe the radiator is working fine - coolant runs thru many places in your car that can leak. Did the mechanics do a pressure check on the coolant system (pressurize the system with a pump and watch the g...

knocking

I'm not specifically familiar with that engine, but some of the obvious things to check are the knock sensor (if it has one) and the EGR valve/piping. If the EGR valve is clogged up or not working correctly the engine can knock. The other obvious thing is the timing, but it's probably computer contr...

Driveline noise - help please

Hi, I have a '95 850 GLT wagon. Recently I had to change the front O2 sensor, so jacked up the car at the front cross-memeber and put jack stands on both sides near the control arm (again on the frame). Standard jacking procedure, as far as I know. Anyway (coincidentally to the jacking or not) the n...

exhaust rubbing driveline

Okay, maybe this is too simple to be a fix, but can't most good exhaust/muffler shops fabricate custom fitting exhaust pieces? It seems logical that they could slightly bend the exhaust out of the way of the driveline.
