Thanks for the info.
I used a worm gear clamp to fix the motor by the glove box a couple years back. No problem since.

96 850 GLT Climate Control Problem
Every time I start the car now, I'm getting the flashing lights on the climate control unit. I know that means it's objecting to something. I'm thinking it's complaining about stuck/inoperative flaps. When I set the dial to direct air to come out of the dashboard, I don't get any flow. In the past, ...

Re: Scared to loosen 18 year old thermostat bolts!
I can't say my memory serves me well on the size. I have a full set of Torx bits, so it may be a T-40, I just typed the wrong size. Just for the record. Did this job earlier in the year, but had the same concern about the bolts. I PB blasted the bolts everyday for about a week. Bought the correct s...

Re: Driver Side Windshield Wiper Arm
I know we all have to find the path to Volvo enlightenment that is right for us. But for those still wrestling with this issue, if you own or can borrow a Dremel tool, it's super easy to relieve about 1mm or less from those two nubs shown at the right of Erik's photo. The result is a totally clean ...

96 850 GLT Transmission Fluid
When I replace the CV boot on the driver side, the transmission fluid that leaked out when the axle was removed was a lot more brown than it appears on the dip stick. So I'll do a few drain and fills. With about 254k on it, any reason not to switch a synthetic? Is it ok to have synthetic/non-synthet...

Thanks
I gripped it right behind the tie rod ball and used a pipe wrench to loosen it.

Re: 1996 850 Tie Rod Replacement
IMG_0746.JPG OK, the CV boot replacement went without a hitch. Hardest part was getting the axle out of the bearing. The axle popped out of the transmission on the first tap using the 5/8" Craftsman chisel. Now I'm on to the tie rods. On the inner tie rod, there are no flats for a wrench. I gu...
