cohopsysh, you GOTTA replace the shims with new ones. I just did the rear brakes on my 97 850 GLT, and at first I didn;t even use shims, just the anti squeak goop, but it didn't matter. I went to my local Volvo dealer and got the shims for $16 plus tax, put them on with some anti squeak goop, and it...

Brake Shims and Radio Codes

OK, two things. I went to my local Volvo dealer for the first time today. I got the ant-squeal shims for the rear brakes ($16.00) and since I bought my car used, I got what I thought would be the correct radio code to reset the radio. Rear Brake Shims

Are the rear brake shims available from auto parts stores or only from Volvo? My rear brakes squeal, and the brakes were replaced right before I bought the car. I bought some of the "goop" you put on the pads, and it helped a little but not much.

Check Engine light

Thanks for the advice, I guess I should have known better than to listen to the "Autozone Guy"! I'll go get a gas cap from Volvo. No, they didn't clear the codes, or even offer to. Great site, I think I'll be here a lot!

Check Engine Light

Just bought a 1997 850 GLT with 146,000 miles. Regular maintainance appears to have been done on the car. The private dealer I bought it from told me they had taken it to the shop for the check engine light, but they couldn't find anything wrong! I then took it to Autozone to have the code r...
