I'm going to spit out a resounding no . The redblocks are very similar between b21/23 and the b230/4 platform. In the case of the whiteblocks, they're enough different that they deserve separation, but a 740 is basically a 240 with a granny suspension redesign and electricals that weren't designed b...

Check for fuel, check for spark.

Pull the plugs, smell for fuel.
An inductive timing light makes checking for spark a breeze, you might want to invest in one if you don't have one already.

Any pops? Any sputters? Any noises?

4-5k rpm is basically redline, assuming an M cam. If it's actually as high as you claim, I'd be on the hunt for a post-TB vacuum leak the size of Texas. A spray bottle filled can help find the leak, spray lightly until you notice a stumble. Also, the fact that it's overheating at a light is indicati...

Pretty lumpy, but plenty driveable. Idle will be funky without tuning. Pulls strong from 3K as high as you want to go.

cold air = more dense= more power and less mpg. If you do this you may or may not have problems starting. Huh? You have problems starting? You have less mileage? What'd you mess up? Jackp: It still won't be a screamer. Think high 17's if you can launch well. Volvo's SOHC heads aren't really all tha...

Re: more info on upgrades?

Hi Andreas, I like the recommendations that you made above. I'm thinking about buying a pristine 1990 740 GL but would love to have a little more power than 114hp. I know nothing about mods...how much would your list above cost? Thanks! Brook A fair amount to those of us in the US. 531's are rare a...

I beg to differ. For a rapid street car, a piggyback system is simply a band-aid. I've been running Megasquirt on my daily driver for over a year now, and it runs great. -Diagnostic functions? Worlds better than some stupid OBD crap. -Cruise control? Sure. I would never run a piggyback on a daily dr...

Make (or buy) a freer-flowing exhaust before upping the boost.
