Can I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30 for hot weather in my XC70 2007

Hello, I wonder if anyone has an opinion on this, please. Will Mobil 1 High Mileage Formula 5W-30 give adequate protection to my 2007 XC70 even in temperatures above 86°F (30°C)? I have always used Mobil 1 High Mileage Formula in my old Volvos, and (rightly or wrongly) trust in the seal conditioners...

Re: any tips for replacing vacuum lines in V70R AWD?

Thank you for that advice!
Camera and paint sound like good tips.
Will give feedback when I get to it.

any tips for replacing vacuum lines in V70R AWD?

Thanks to those who advocated replacing the vacuum lines with silicone, I now have a kit from Stylinmotors. My brother replaced the hoses on his Saab 9000, and thought it would be a similarly easy job to do the same on my Volvo - but when looking under the hood of my 98 V70 R we couldn't really work...

Re: Protecting your interior: leather lotion!

Does anybody have any thoughts or experience with the Alcantara panels on the late 90s V70R? What is the best way to clean them? Does it matter if whatever lotion you use on the leather panels gets onto them? They look like suede, but I guess they are a bit more resilient? I was out using a shoe lea...

Re: Opinions on the early AWD Volvo cars reliability

A very reassuring post. Thanks for that. I am still getting used to mine, and still have some things to work on, which I hope will improve the experience. But I hope to get many years of pleasure and fun from it; who knows, maybe even love it as much as my 850turbo one day. Found this interesting lo...

Re: Opinions on the early AWD Volvo cars reliability

I recently switched from an 850turbo wagon to a 98 V70R AWD. Can't speak to the reliability - too soon to say, but I hope it's good... But a few observations if you are thinking of switching: even without snow, I prefer the way the AWD handles in a couple of situations: when pulling out and turning ...

Re: systematic red paint tags in engine compartment; any ideas?

Thank you for your replies. My fear was that it was a sign of extensive work, although the pattern didn't make sense. Thank you for your reassurance Lee - that is good to know that it is factory S.O.P. Don't know why I hadn't noticed it on my other Volvos. As you say, particularly useful info at thi...

systematic red paint tags in engine compartment; any ideas?

A few thousand miles ago I bought a V70R AWD at about 96k, from a (generic) second-hand car dealer. Looking under the hood today (starting to work on some projects suggested here) I noticed that there are little red paint marks on lots of the parts in the engine compartment, but by no means all the ...

Re: normal 'feel' of 98R acceleration, or problem with power?

thank you for those thoughts. It makes sense that the AWD system would add weight - I hadn't thought of that. And that is interesting that the R is rated a little slower than the T5 - I had assumed that the R would be a higher performance engine, as it was with the first R's and the last R's. I have...

Re: normal 'feel' of 98R acceleration, or problem with power?

Hello Matt, I haven't really put that much work into the car yet - part of my concern is how much effort and money I want to put in, if the engine is irreparably damaged somehow. I of course changed oil and filter first thing; I am hoping that since spark plugs are specified as a 90k service change,...
