I have a 1989 240DL Sedan, automatic transmission. A few days ago we noticed a distinct knock or rhythmic vibration coming from gear shift when the car is in reverse; we don't notice the problem at all in other gears.

I did an initial check on fuses... all looked fine but the problem persisted. So I just bought new ones and replaced them all. Check engine light is now off, and the car is staring fine.
