Re: Help with misfire code
Gave the machine shop new valve seals when I had the valve job done. Pulled the valves out of the head last night and found some interesting things - 1) 3 of the valve spring seats were missing. (this explains the mysterious metal pieces inside the head) 2) A couple of valve seals were torn and seve...

Re: Help with misfire code
Had machine shop inspect and resurface head, replace one exh valve, and inspect and recond all valves. I believe that the problem was worn dist cap and rotor (should have replaced after rebuild but was cheap) causing misfires that resulted in build up of carbon on exhaust valves. Carbon on one of th...

Re: Help with misfire code
Did a leak down test this past weekend.
Seems to be a leaking exhaust valve.
Is it possible to have a burnt valve in 15k miles of use?
Any other reasons that an exhaust valve would be leaking?

Re: Help with misfire code
Still low compression on #4.
I'm gonna sell it or part it out.
Check the for sale board.

Re: Help with misfire code
I checked the compression again on #4 last night after my Italian tune up Sunday evening. It is now reading at 20 psi instead of 0 so maybe it is getting better.
I will do another run later this week before trying Seafoam.

Re: Help with misfire code
I'm not interested in rebuilding the head again.
If Seafoam doesn't help, then I'm going to get rid of it.

Re: Help with misfire code
I'm going to see if I can rent a leak down tester from autozone to see where the problem is.
I don't think that I want to pull the head again.

Re: Help with misfire code
Checked compression this weekend. Cyl 1 = 180 psi Cyl 2 = 200 psi Cyl 3 = 185 psi Cyl 4 = 0 Cyl 5 = 165 psi Obviously I'm disappointed to see the reading on #4. There was a litte pressure in the guage when I released it, but not enough to show a reading on the guage. Checked it 3 times for good meas...
