Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40

Ok, someone from the ETM section confirmed there is no ETM on my S40 : "Your S40 has an old fashioned cable connecting gas pedal to the throttle, there is no ETM in it. Have the vehicle scanned and see what the codes are, my guess bad O2 or high fuel pressure." Could someone confirm I will...

Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40 - ETM?

Great thanks!

Just another question then : will there be codes to read even though I don't have any lamp on on the dashboard?

Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40

It's in Ireland so... yes, it is cold and rainy :)
However, it really seems to me that my car fumes all the time. I compared it this morning with the other cars around, none of them was fuming that much.
I guess that must be related to the bad gas emissions that were detected by the mechanic.

Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40 - ETM?

OK, I have forgotten to add that the car has 58.000 miles. My questions above may not be all relevant to this section of the forum, but I would like to make 100% sure about one thing : Half the posts and articles I have read thus far around ETM state that the S40 such as mine doesn't have one, the o...

Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40

Guys, I really appreciate your help!! I have posted in the ETM section to confirm whether my car has one or not. As for the other pieces you have mentionned, (IACV, MAF sensor, vacuum pipe and fuel pressur regulator), are those parts I can get replaced by any mechanic, not necessarily by a Volvo dea...

Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40 - ETM?

Hi all, I have posted the following in the S40 sub-forum and was redirected to this section. Could someone assist me by confirming the problems below are lincked to my car's ETM? So, I just bought a third hand Volvo S40 from 2001 petrol manual 1.8i, which would be absolutely perfect but for the foll...

Re: Erratic idle + erratic acceleration on a 2001 S40

Thanks a million! I will repost in the ETM section then. So there is no doubt that an S40 from 2001 also has an ETM? I saw in Don's VEXED forum that only the v50, 70 and 80 from 1999 to 2002 had had this problem. And couldn't other defective parts be responsible as well? I have read about similar sy...
