i checked all the fuses under the hood, only one was blown, i replaced it and the trip odometer came back to life, all the other fuses are working fine, i believe there is another fuse box or something internal i cannot get to from under the hood.

I believe it is a standard feature on all volvo's to have the service light come on after so many miles. There is a posting which refers to reseting the service light so it will not come on anymore. maybe you should look for that posting, good luck.
