Think I got it.
Checked over the vac lines, everything looked good. Checked fuel pressure. High 50s. Swapped MAF for the hell of it. According to maint. records, smoke test was done 1 1/2 year ago when the coolant temp sensor was changed, and all was well, but the notes said to keep an eye on the ...

Re: 99 V7o XC w/Bad Exhaust Smell and Poor MPG
Anyone have tips on locating vacuum leaks and/or where the most common places are for this year/model?

99 V7o XC w/Bad Exhaust Smell and Poor MPG
Ok boys & girls, here's my situation:
Picked up a 99 V70 XC in Jan. 2012. Ran good. Only 101K on it.
15K later I have very rich smelling exhaust and 2 or 3 mpg decrease. Not much to speak of for noticeable smoke. Just a little on start up every once and a while. Check Engine light on and error codes ...

Re: ECU chip question.
Thanks again for all the great info. Because some of the chip sellers market their products with promises of improved mpg, I was under the impression that this was a possible way to save some gas. I agree that backing off on the throttle is the most practical and foolproof way to this. I'm pretty ...

Re: ECU chip question.
Thanks all for the reply. I will look into the ARD options. I figured you get what you pay for! Anything I should be taking into consideration when doing a chip mod at 100,000+ ?
Also wondering if I can send in the ECU from my identical parts car and then stick it in my running car when it's done ...

ECU chip question.
I would like to improve my MPG with my 1999 V70 XC. (101,xxx mi.) In addition to using a K&N air filter and premium spark plugs, I am looking into a chip upgrade as a boost in HP would also be nice.

Re: XeMODeX ETM- Who has had it done?
I also want to know if anyone knows how often hard starting is attributed to ETM failure. This is one of my problems along with hesitation in acceleration , cruise control failure and occasional limp home mode.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Re: XeMODeX ETM- Who has had it done?
Just want to clarify something that seems obvious...but not really stated outright in this thread. This XeMODex ETM solution requires no "re-programming" from a dealer, right? The XeMODex website offers the ETM "pre-loaded with software" or just rebuilt. I'm assuming I want the pre-loaded option if ...

Re: 99 V70 XC AC Compressor fix ??
Greetings. I have experienced the classic problem of losing my ac and getting that damp smell. As the weather heats up the duration of run time decreased to 10 min or less. I replaced the accumulator (turned out it was full of crud) and a high side pressure switch, but still saw no improvement of ...
