Re: For sale 760 turbo wagon...$900
I had a 1987 760 turbo... great car! What year is this one? If it is an 86-88, be aware there was a recall on it associated with the positive battery to starter cable. The cable is routed through a chase across the frame and vibration rubs the insulation and causes an engine fire. Sadly, my low-mile...

Re: 98 Volvo V70 GLT Wagon tranny issues
Agree that you may be having an electrical contact and/or grounding issue. Now that you have the codes, I would try a "reset". My '94 850T would have a similar problem once in a while. This may also work on your '98. If you turn the ignition on/off five times (without engine running... jus...

Re: XC 70 front coil spring failure
I've had a small fleet of 740 and 850 series volvos and have serviced the front strut assemblies on all of them and have never seen this type of failure. Given the low mileage and garage storage, I can't imagine why. Do you know if the car was ever in a front-end collision? That's the only thing I c...

Re: P0422 after front o2 replacement
I have a small fleet of 740's and 850's and only install Bosch direct-fit O2 sensors as I've heard of too many issues with the off-brand parts. Did you change the front or rear O2 sensor? I believe P0422 may be triggered by the rear sensor. If that's the one you changed, I'd swap it out with a direc...

Re: Am I crazy?
Well... If I had a lower-mileage car.. say, less than 50K, I'd probably choose that one but provided all the fluids are fresh (coolant, brake, trans) AND the coolant hoses, tires and belts are fairly new (10K or less) I think it should be fine.

Re: Hours listed on TSB vs. Hours Quoted at Dealership
I've done this job myself on two old 850's.... a 1994 850 turbo and a 1997 850R Turbo wagon... not an 8 hour job for a hack mechanic and definitely not for an experienced/certified mechanic. Typically the dealership sells parts for list price so they'll make 20-30% or more on the parts plus charge y...

Re: Front end issues - '05 S60 2.5T
I'd be very surprised if the strut wasn't bent. Would also be concerned about the frame on that side. Also check the inner/outer tie rods. I'd change the strut, and top strut bushing and bearing and then attempt to have it aligned. If it won't align, you'll need to have a collision shop evaluate the...

1994 850 Turbo; crank/no spark/no start... VSS issue?
Cross-posted this on the Facebook site. 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo with about 188K on it. Having a crank/no spark issue. Coil tests good and was also swapped with a known good coil. New cap/rotor and crank and cam sensors were installed (needed to be done anyway) but no success. I swapped the ECU with ano...

Re: 97 850R wagon no idle after PCV replacement
It lives once again! So I pulled the manifold today, changed the gasket and pulled that stupid hose bracket/tab off the drivers side manifold bolt. Re-installed everything and it fired right up. Although I didn't see it to confirm, I'm assuming that bracket/tab slipped in the way on installation and...

Re: 97 850R wagon no idle after PCV replacement
Have checked/double-checked all the plumbing, especially the IAC and everything's tight. That would have been a great quick fix if loose. Even though that dumb hose clamp holding the solid breather pipes looks like it's installed right, I'm still suspicious of it and am at the point where I need to ...
