Re: 2000 XC70 Oil drain plug issue
This is the thing I'm talking about

The sprung bit on the threaded rod will undo and fall off I think - it's designed to push through the hole and expand/bite onto the back of the drain pan.

2000 XC70 Oil drain plug issue
OK, so here's the problem - my increasingly elderly XC70 is incontinent :) At some point in the past it obviously had an oil change at a quick change place, and they stripped out the drain plug. In it's place they put one of those "universal" drain plug replacements, that have a butterfly ...

Stupid question - how do I know if I have 4 or 5 spd auto?
OK, I *know* this sounds very stupid, but I have a 2000 XC70, and I'm about to replace the front driveshafts and I need to know. If it has a four speed auto, the transmission selector in the car offers 3,2 and 1 as options, right? And if it were to be a 5 speed it would offer 4,3,2,1 yes? I tried to...

Re: Loud engine noises with 2000 XC70
Thank you - that's a great idea, which I hadn't thought of. I'll check the engine mount this evening. I'm pretty sure the muffler and heat shield are all OK, because I did wiggle/poke them hunting for the rattle-like-metal-running-along-the-ground

Loud engine noises with 2000 XC70
OK, so this has me stumped. The car is normally pretty quiet and civilized to drive, and now suddenly it has gained two new noises. The first one sounds almost like something metal is bouncing off the road below the car - it's a metallic sound. The second noise is more of a resonance - almost as bad...

Re: RPM dip, stumbling
Well, perhaps my experience might help - I had an issue where the real problem was the front O2 sensor went bad, but as part of the fault-finding process I replaced the MAF sensor with an aftermarket one (EBay special). The car ran, didn't throw any codes BUT the gas mileage was awful (around 16mpg ...

Re: 2000 turbo XC70 with terrible idle and dreadful gas mila
Well, I changed the sensor, and the light now has stayed off for 4 days. It's a little early to declare victory but it looks really hopeful, since now the scanned O2 voltage is around 0.4v, and varies with the throttle position. MAF sensor value also changes, so I think both are now good. The averag...

Re: 2000 turbo XC70 with terrible idle and dreadful gas mila
OK, I went home and stuck the scanner on live data (after clearing another 134 code out). My Innova DOES have MAF, and the value goes up as you stick your foot on the gas, just as you'd expect. The O2 voltage, however, sticks at 1.084v no matter what, so I guess I'm up for a sensorectomy. Never havi...
