i too just dis connected my headlight motor plug which i never knew even was connected. the headlight wipers never worked and then at 284,000 miles, it started really vibrating when i turned the key, and not even to the start position. thanks again to this site for making life easier..!

this write up was great for me and made the job much easier. the interesting thing i found today while i was looking for the mark on the crank gear, was i found 2 small "punches" on the top of each tooth, marking the TDC, which was in the center. i was looking for a notch and finally saw the punches ...

thanks for the advice. id rather spend more than have something possibly fail, seeing it could really mess up the engine if the timing belt were to fail...

i know the volvo parts are much more expensive, but it seems to make the best sense. some of the kits i saw from others were only 129.00, for the belt, both pulleys. just seems too cheap. anyone try any of these others for parts? they holding up to what the claim was?

i see there are a few options on buying a timing belt kit. some are inexpensive like groton or ipd. my first instinct tells me not to save money and buy real volvo parts.. water pumps too, some are cheap in price and i wonder if they are reflecting the quality, anyone care to share thier experience ...

i found out it was the compressor clutch gap by putting pressure on it with a broomstick as someone had wrote about. i temporarily put some shims on the outside of the clutch. it was the "ghetto" fix described by nate. i appreciate all the advice and the ac works great now all the time! i'll take it ...
