Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
Well, I found another ignition control module and swapped it in just to test. The car fired right up on the first crank! I let it run, turned it off. It started again two more times. It was running, but sort of rough like the timing was off. That is when I noticed that the distributor cap had rotate...

Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
Hmm, I have neither of those tools. Nor have I used an oscilloscope since high school physics! Automotive logic probes are $10 -20. They are just old fashion trouble lights with LEDs and current limiting resistors instead of incandescent bulbs. The lower current draw of the LEDs is what make them c...

Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
What do you mean by firing pulse? I just went out and checked. I have 12.2volts on pin#1 with the key in the on position. Pin #1 of the ECM should be 100% grounded with engine not running or cranking. Pin #1 Opens/Floats/ goes high to fire the coil when the engine is cranking or running. When crank...

Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
Crank no start. This time around I have no spark. Been running fine lately, then today would not start. Are you getting a firing pulse on ECM pin# 1 (Gray wire)? Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
Six and a half years later-running into similar issue. Crank no start. This time around I have no spark. Been running fine lately, then today would not start. New battery, new plugs, newish rotor and cap. I can hear the fuel pump when I jump it at the fuse panel and the relay. Coil resistance is wit...

1988 240 230F L2.2 - Overheating Issues
Hello Group. I need some advice tracking down an overheating issue. I had a slow coolant leak at the thermostat housing and at the top of the water pump. It had been leaking for some time, performance was fine and I kept the coolant topped up until I could get to it. That time was yesterday. I repla...

1988 240 New blower motor resistor not working
Undertook the infamous blower motor replacement today  . Dis-assembly and replacement went fine following the lead of many others. However, when I made the connections and turned on the fan I only get one setting-high. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with the resistor. The mot...

Re: tailgate latch not functioning
Hey MM, I have yet to fix mine, just dealt with it. I have been focusing my energy (money) on other things. A few years ago I did quite a bit of looking around for the latch mechanism parts and they were either non existent or cost prohibitive. The link could probably be made from some thin gauge ro...

Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
Turned out to be a faulty ignition control module. Local pick a part had one for $30 so just swapped it out instead of trying to solder/repair the old one. Ended up replacing the coil as well, the high voltage resistance was higher than spec. Started right up!

Re: 1988 240 Wagon - Crank No Start
The ignition module connector feels solid and the car did not start while pushing it in. It behaved the same as before. I checked the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and could smell gas. I did not have time to pull the return line and check that. Would that indicate a bad regulator? Woul...
