I have a replacement unit coming today. Should I be concerned about just plugging it in without knowing what caused the last one to blow or do these things protect themselves?

I bought a used auto-ECC off eBay yesterday. Should I be concerned about plugging it in without knowing what caused it to fail in the first place? Can a short in the wiring or one of the motors damage the ECC or will it just set a code and not work right? Should I take it to a shop and have them put...

To Ozark Lee:
Sounds like you replaced your Auto-ECC with a manual one..Did you buy it new or from a salvage yard? Any modifications required or does it plug right in? Any regrets about not going back with an Auto-ECC?

I pulled the codes and got 14 as well. I could not get the codes to clear using the usual procedure. I pulled the unit out and took the cover off. Smoking ECC

I have a '93 850. The other day I was driving with the ECC set to off (no fan)and REC and A/C off. Nothing should have been "on". Smoke started coming out of the ECC that smelled like burning electrical components. Now the fan won't run and no controls work. I do recall the 2 lights blinki...

I decided to make my own tool..I used an adjustable wrench to loosen/tighten. Works fine but obviously I can't torque to the specified setting. I used the old gasket and it doesn't leak.. http://img492.imageshack.us/img492/122/fuelpumptool11hl.th.jpg http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/566/fuelpumpto...

That may point back to the PNP. Again, pulling the codes may go a long way to pointing you in the right direction.

Sounds like a problem with your solenoids. Before I had mine replaced on my 93 850 I was advised to try changing the transmission fluid. Didn't help...

Thanks, Alan. I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy a specil tool. Anybody else come up with a way to break this nut loose?
