chrism wrote: 17 Feb 2019, 12:44 Sounds like the problem isn’t so much the rack as it is the racquet.
What is a racquet?

Re: Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

Go to a different shop for your inspection. I find that some people aren’t skilled to perform their jobs and give answers like the one you got. I was thinking about that, but this shop is close to me. I cannot get licence plates before the car passes safety, and I don't want to go on the road witho...

Re: Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

I'm curious if you lifted each wheel, one at a time, from under the lower control arm/ball joint. That way you would be analyzing with the suspension and tie rod in a close-to-normally-loaded position. No play if tested in a close to normally loaded position, that's why I started this post. I think...

Re: Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

Was the inner tie rod replaced on that side? When these are being replaced, the inner centring bushing can fail upon torquing the tie rod, if the rack bar is not counterhold (Volvo has a special tool for this). Not always but may happen. Anyhow, you need a replacement rack so look for a used one if...

Re: Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

There is a bushing for the rack in the end of steering housing. There is a preload spring that pushes against a saddle puck (can't think of the name they call this part) to keep the rack gear teeth loaded at the correct amount against the pinion. When the wheels hang there is a force vector to push...

Re: Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

With the car on a hoist, you can move the left wheel just a little with your hands (on the 9 and 3 clock position). The wheel on the right cannot be moved. The "rack" on the left side moves a little up in the housing if you force the left wheel. I took the steering rack to a steering rack ...

Steering, how to check by Volvo procedure.

I have a 2001 Volvo V70XC with 300.000 km. The car failed safety because of the steering. All joints are tight! The mechanic puts the car on a lift, wheel hanging down, then checks. With the tire on the ground there is no movement at all. I don't want to buy a new steering rack and still have the sa...

Re: Part number control arm 2001 V70XC

YZ1SZ58D211002356 This is my VIN. The local dealer will only give me the part numbers for the control arms if I buy them there.

Part number control arm 2001 V70XC

The part numbers are confusing me. I have a 2001 V70XC Cross Country and ordered control arms. I received control arms that had the hole for the ball joint one inch to close to the frame. The number on the old ones are 08624553 and 08624552, but with a internet search nothing comes up. Does anyone k...
