Re: 2001 2002 5-speed automatic transmission & problems - start here
Is this reason enough to avoid MY01/02 cars altogether? I'm looking at picking up another Volvo after about 6 years without my 850, and looking at some newer models. Is this stop neutral thing something I can feel while test driving a car to be able to tell whether it has had the programming updated...

parts compatibility between 850 and 940/960?
Just blew the bottom end in my 850 this morning on the way to work, and looking at all options now one of which is to dump the 850 and move into a 960 (or perhaps a 940 assuming a good enough deal). Main reason for going RWD is that I want a chassis to do a big power project some time in the future ...

Re: Oxygen sensor compatibility
Big difference in the way the two types of sensors operate - the zirconia produces a small voltage that changes with differing oxygen concetrations, whereas the titania changes resistance.

Re: Air Cabin Filter
Simple answer - you don't have one. Lots of these earlier cars didn't come with one standard, thus you also need the retainer - http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/product_id/4795/nm/Volvo+850+Cabin+Filter+Retainer+%281993-1996%29 Or, visit your local pick-a-part, and start pulling up cowls until ...

Re: Oxygen sensor compatibility
For the most part, an oxygen sensor is an oxygen sensor is an oxygen sensor. In other words, the sensor part is the same on most all of them. The only real differences are number of wires (1-4 wires), and connector body. In theory, you could even swap any one wire sensor into a car that came with a ...

Re: Well, that didn't take long - wagon is totalled
Just as general experience, I've found that outside of building a dedicated race car, a "high mile car on it's last legs" is rarely worth the effort, as you'll be swapping EVERYTHING from your car into it, and that's a lot more labor than most people realize. That said, if you're up for it...

Re: Isn't there an ECC diagnosis thread somewhere?
just to update as solved, turned out to be a power stage failure. Picked up another at my monthly junk yard trip today, plugged it in, and the blower now works as it should on all speeds. Still have an issue with the driver's side temp sensor, code 124 I think, saying circuit open or shorted to 12 v...

Re: black headliner, visors, etc
I thought about that, but I've had suede in other vehicles, and it always seemed like it's just as much of a nightmare to keep clean as the cloth stuff, not to mention the cost. For a headliner, I'm ok with the cheap material up there, lol. Honestly, if it wasn't for the weight, I'd cover it in mari...

black headliner, visors, etc
I'm sure this has been covered a hundred times, but searching for it is coming up with nothing...probably not using the right search terms.... Anyways...seems all the 850s came with tan headiners/visors/overhead lights/grab handles/etc, regardless of interior color. I thought mine was just a half fi...
