Re: Why does VVT have to be "unloaded" before removing the timing belt ?

The reason is simple: on the the 99-2001, the exhaust VVT has a spring. If you turn it CW to the marks then when you remove belt the exhaust gear moves and you have to fight it back to the correct place while fitting the new belt and getting everything in place. If you go past and then CCW back to m...

Re: 96' 850 AC not charging after holding vacuum

In hot weather I rarely have to run engine to charge. If it is a dual system like some SUVs have then I can get close to full even on those. I am talking about charging it through one hose/fitting with 30# tank on scale. It goes in faster if I charge through both hoses but I will get a lot more liqu...

Re: Lean Code P0171, but LTFT is -25

Have you checked intercooler and the connector hoses? The negative numbers indicate taking fuel away. I would expect the rich P code but scan tools do make mistakes. The black plugs back up the negative numbers from the ECM dialing down injector open time. What is fuel pressure? Is fuel pressure reg...

Re: How to remove the rear door window crank? Topic is solved

I recall it being a clip that slides to the side. You push on the door panel towards outside so the panel pushes away from the handle so you can get to area behind handle hub and then pull the clip opposite the handle shank. I have a J hook tool but I have opened a cotter pin 90 degrees and used nee...

Re: 96' 850 AC not charging after holding vacuum

The low side cycling switch opens at 22-24 psi (compressor off) and closes at 42-44. I'm in Texas and when it is 95 or higher in my shop I never have any issue with the refrigerant charging in to the full capacity without ever running the system. I work on several vehicles with high side access and ...

Re: Fuel filter location - 2008 XC70

There are sources selling the inside the tank mounted fuel filter. You remove the fuel pump and then follow the accordioned line to the filter. The filter is held by a plastic flexible strap that you unhook and then pull the filter into the opening. The other line on filter is not long enough to get...

Re: How do you use a geartronic transmission?

If you are looking for some guide as to "proper" use there is none. At some point in the past one of the car makers decided that manual shifting via toggling the gear lever was more sporty than moving the gear lever sequentially to the desired gear. There were toggle shifters in Formula One racing c...

Re: '07 S80 3.2 - Dumping Windshield Washer Fluid - Fixed

The headlight washers are higher pressure than windshield washer and the rubber hose may pop off. If it does then use zip ties as clamps. Probably would never pop off unless you use the more viscous washer fluids in higher than 50% concentration. Rain-X is, or was the last time I bought and used it,...

Re: Air Con active during startup, this is not normal?

The refrigerant pools due to low compressor location. On the vehicles with variable displacement compressor the problem is addressed by a progressive change from lowest pumping to the desired higher level function. This feature gives P3 and 3.2 and V8 P2 XC90 owners that delay of 15 or so seconds be...

Re: Intake air temp showed up as 203F. Normal?

The air preheater hose from the air heater shroud over exhaust heats the air. Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose over to the air cleaner and enjoy a better running car all summer. You might need it in the winter for throttle icing prevention and it has some positive impacts on faster warm up and lo...
