Re: 1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
Got it up on ramps and had a look. Tough to tell where the leak is coming from, but it looks like it's coming from near where the column connects to the rack. Could be coming from a hard line in the same area, but it's very, very difficult to tell. I'll be bringing it into the shop as soon as they'r...

Re: 1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
I'll pick some up today, but I'm not hopeful. I'd comfortably call this leak "gushing." On the bright side, if the Lucas stuff did work, I'd have also managed to flush the system by just leaking it all out!

Re: 1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
Yeah, the plan is to get it out to my parents' house tomorrow (right around the corner from the indy I prefer) to get it up on ramps and have a look. It'd be nice if it was a line instead of the rack!

Re: 1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
Thanks, Erik. I'll give Jorgen a call on Tuesday (damned holiday). I just put new tie rods on in June, so I definitely don't need them, and I know which rack I've got. It's going to hurt paying for an alignment again, though! And are we agreeing, then, that the location/volume of the leak is a prett...

http://shop.rackdoctor.net/1998-2000-Volvo-70-Series-Rack-and-Pinion-FWD-16995-25496.htm Anybody have experience with these guys? Rebuilt OEM rack, found the link on Volvospeed. Price seems great. My other option for replacement is used. My indy has a Volvo junkyard, and would probably be able to ge...

Re: 1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
Oh, and if the rack does need replacing (guessing it does, again, based on location and volume of the leak), what else should be done at the same time? Rear motor mount is apparently a good choice, I understand.

1998 S70 T5 - Steering rack leaking?
Here's an image: http://i.imgur.com/U4hLj8i.jpg That's power steering fluid, and the puddle you see in the license plate I slid in is from about a minute after I shut the car off. I'm pretty confident the steering rack is leaking based on the location of the drip, but if someone can confirm for me, ...

Re: 1998 S70 T5 auto - Noise from front left wheel/tire
Well, it's not very exciting, but for anyone who runs into this post in the future, the noise disappeared on its own, rather gradually, over the last couple of weeks, so it seems resolved for now. My guess is that I did, in fact, have a rock stuck under the caliper (I couldn't see anything when I in...

Re: 97 855R A couple leaks I found today..big deal??
... The second leak you posted is probably the gasket on the oil return line (left of those two in your photo). ... Have to disagree here. If the turbo oil drain return leaks at the upper gasket, the pipe itself gets all oily, especially the flange where it attaches to the turbo. But the flange and...

Re: Volvo 850 Suspension Options For NYC Roads
As others have already said, Bilstein HD is exactly the wrong choice. You will NOT enjoy it. I used to have them on my BMW, and they were bad enough -- half the time, on only moderately rough roads, I thought my car was broken before I realized it was just my suspension. I never did adjust to that. ...
