The fix proposed for grinding down the stop dogs will work, as will my fix which achieves the same result. I changed my blade to the no-frame type which changed the lift-off from straight, mid screen, to curved as the issue you show.

My experience has been:
difficult starting and idle
Started and shut-down a couple of times, then kept it running for a once-around the block.
Starting no longer an issue, Shifting was rough.
Put tools away and went for a longer drive ~5 miles, working all ranges ...
