Many Thanks to DonW

Judging by the severe lack of traffic on the board here, I surmise that most people have been made aware of the notorious Volvo ETM problem, and most have received their ETM rebate money, have the extended ETM warranty, or gotten rid of the problem vehicle. We have DonW to thank for that. Sadly, Vol...

I respectfully disagree .... I didn't pay $45,000 for a Luxury Sports Coupe that would fail/ stall/ surge unexpectedly due to a KNOWN design flaw. If they had done the right thing, ie, a RECALL to substitute a better, SAFER designed part, they would have salvaged their reputation as a leading manufa...

Well yeah, there has NEVER been any doubt that this is a coverup. No amount of software is going to delay the eventual degradation of the thick-film resistor by the mechanical wipers. It is just another smoke-screen put up by Volvo to lull (deceive) the unsuspecting owner into believing they are doi...

Yup, sad but true. I took a loss when I got rid of the vehicle, but I want a reliable car, and a RELIABLE DEALERSHIP behind me ... not against me.

I'm sorry, I thought you asked: "Am I responsible for a diagnosis fee to pick up the car? " They supposedly will cover repair and software d/l for 10yr/200K miles. After that, you are on your own for their poorly designed part failures @ $1000 every 50K miles. They certainly DID NOT COVER ...

I was under the impression that this was all part of the 10yr/200K extended ETM warranty. It is part of their devious strategy to d/l new ETM software that makes it more tolerant of intermittent ETM failure codes. It does NOT solve the premature ETM failures, just disguises them until the failure is...

Are you sure they replaced the ETM, or did they just do the S/W update, and maybe a cleaning?? Sounds like your Throttle body (Position sensor) was worn through to the point where the S/W update couldn't disregard spurious error codes. Sounds like a hard failure. Does the Service record indicate a n...

Your post confused me? Yes, the original factory part could have been a (defective designed) Magneti Marelli, and could have been replaced with the (better) Bosch ETM. IF you paid money for the replacement, you are ENTITLED to the old part. DonW could do a forensic analysis of the failure and add yo...

1) The Dealer and Volvo Canada are full of B.S. .... defective ETMs were DEFINITELY installed on Turbo motors .... DEFINITELY, NO DEBATE. 2) Not all 2002s have the Defective ETM, as LarryP stated, but certainly some do. 3) DonW's site www.VEXEDvolvo.org has info on all of this, check there. 4) They ...

One of the things that got this all rolling was Volvo's "Secret Warranty". It was the basis of a lawsuit against Volvo, whereby in secret dealer documents, they were authorized to repair an ETM for free, but ONLY IF the customer demanded such action (usually loudy) , otherwise, charge them...
