Re: Control Arm Should I replace?
It is hard to tell from your video since you are spinning it around and moving the whole control arm up and down. I need a reference point. I would replace it if I could feel ANY slack up and down or left and right. You have to grab the ball joint and the control arm an feel if they move as one. On...

Re: Control Arm Should I replace?
Why is this a question? if it's loose you replace it It's a question because I don't know any better and have little experience repairing cars :) But I have to say I'm really enjoying the process. I'm getting a real sense of accomplishment doing this stuff. Unlike my day job troubleshooting Vmware ...

Re: Brake Pads that don't squeel
I know this is an old post... But do you care to elaborate JRL? I don't know what "the install was incorrect means"? It's a little vague.JRL wrote:OEM Volvo pads do not squeal if mated to OEm rotors.
If so, the install was incorrect

Re: 1st Attempt at Tie rod Replacement Need a Sanity Check
I went out to take the video and the whine is gone! No bubbles no whine all seems well. Took it for a quick road test around the block a few times and the difference in handling is profound. And the alignment is off the same amount as before. Pulls to the left a bit , I have to turn the steering whe...

Re: 1st Attempt at Tie rod Replacement Need a Sanity Check
I was definitely planning on getting an alignment but I'm afraid to drive it anywhere right now for fear of doing further damage.I was meticulous about the measurements. I Measured the slop in the old inner too- 1/8"! I'm surprised the two pieces stayed connected. Thanks for the Firestone tip. ...

Re: 1st Attempt at Tie rod Replacement Need a Sanity Check
I removed the inner tie rod - it came off easily. I Immediately realized that the inner tie rod that I removed was very different than the one I ordered. I brought the new one and the old one to my mechanic. Turns out I have a 1998 V70 SMI steering rack . He got me the correct inner tie rod in a cou...

Re: 1st Attempt at Tie rod Replacement Need a Sanity Check
Thanks Guys! I got the outer tie rod off. Andrew, I followed your advice and I also removed the wheel well splash guard. That gave me just enough room. This repair is a bit harder than I thought it would be but it's a great learning experience. And I even got my garage up to 32 degrees F! Once I got...

Re: 1st Attempt at Tie rod Replacement Need a Sanity Check
Ok, so i successfully removed the outer tie-rod end from the hub assembly. I had soaked it with PB blaster for 3 nights in row. It only took 3 or 4 medium blows with the BFH and it popped out. At this point I'm trying to remove the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. It will not budge. I even ...
