I spoke with the dealer and they are unable to determine this by VIN and can only determine by a visual inspection. I do not want to take it to them since...

I had a very similar experience with my 2000 T6. It has not happened since. However, on that same day my cooling fan had died and the car was running very hot and it was a very hot day (about 90 degrees) outside.
