Re: 1999 S70 NA Evita right front caliper hot 30648017 (crappy caliper slide bolts)
Another thing to watch for here - lube the slider, then see how it slides through the rubber grommet in the caliper. I've had a couple times where the caliper casting rusted, compressing the rubber grommet so it binds on the slider. The grommet can be removed, then a round file used to clean the ins...

Re: Valvebody, Does it matter????
Could be valve body. Could be as simple as incorrect fluid level. There is a specific process for checking fluid level. It has to be done with transmission HOT after a long drive. Engine running, parked on a level spot. Move shifter through all gears. Then remove dipstick and check fluid level. 01/0...

Sounds like maybe he screwed up the timing belt job and buggered up the engine.

Yes, don't replace stuff that doesn't need to be replaced. You're in Chicago, anything you need to order can probably be there next day with cheap shipping. Like Oragex says, stay away from cheap parts of unknown origin, you'll be in there again next year.

Re: Steering Rack issue on 2006 XC70
1a) You need to take the front struts and strut bearings out to replace the spring mounts. No point putting old ones back in. Sachs is the OEM for Volvo, so get the Sachs struts from your favourite supplier (I use fcpeuro or eeuroparts). 1b) You will also have sway bar links disconnected to do this....

Re: 2004 XC70 MPG on 91 Octane (US)
Fuelly today says for my '07 XC70 (200k kms, 160k tracked)
10.9 L/100km (that's 21.6 US or 25.9 Imperial mpg)
as the all-time average.
My work commute is daily 30km each way, half city half highway.

Yep. Change the mounts and bearings. Unless you live somewhere with glass smooth roads you are also due to replace the following items if not done yet:
front struts
rear shocks
lower control arms (bushings)
ball joints
sway bar (bushings)
sway bar links
