Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

Awesome, will complete the tune up hopefully this week when the new wires, cap/rotor and fuel filter come in... fresh oil change will follow. I usually stick with Mobil 1, any objections? Yesterday I took the car out for a 390+ mile cruise/test... city, highway and mountain driving. NEVER skipped a ...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

Thanks kcjones. The weather is looking nice the next coming days so a tune up and oil change is definitely in order. Good idea about the fuel filter, that should be a must I would think after seeing how clogged the PTC was, I imagine the fuel filter has not been changed in some time. Do you normally...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

I feel like I have taken over this thread, sorry. So I put in the new MAF and tried to clear the code by leaving the + terminal off for 10 minutes or so... the code remained. I drove it for a while and no sign of stalling... a/c on, a/c off... seemed fine. Took it to UhOh Zone and had the codes pull...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

Well, since cleaning the PTC the smoking has subsided. First relief there. Another MAF will be here tomorrow and I am REALLY hoping that will rectify the stalling issue. It is very temperature dependent and I am finding it more and more annoying. To me this is really showing it to be the MAF as when...

Re: my 1997 850 wagon

Hey! I JUST purchased a 1997 850 T5 with 147,000 miles actually. Everything seemed fine, even during the test drives, until I bought it and drove it all day. Thats when the fun started... stalling, hesitation, squealing rear brakes, smoke after hard acceleration. I swear none of this was apparent in...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

Whoa! I pulled the intake tube off and removed the PTC... holy crap that thing was full of crud, I used an awl to poke through it and some sensor cleaner to get it thoroughly clean. It was pretty bad, pretty certain it had not been done in a long while, or ever for that matter. Not sure if this is g...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls A LOT

Wonder why I have the security torx, annoying if you ask me... I do have a few bits for those but not that size. When I remove them I am going to replace them with regular torx screws. More to add: Yesterday at a light the car stalled after it dropped below 1k rpm. I had the a/c system running on au...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls ALOT

Thank you kcjones. I will try what you suggested and see what happens. I am going to run a cycle of Seafoam as well... in the fuel and I will do about 6 oz through one of the vacuum lines. I did pull the code and it is directing the problem to the MAF sensor. I tried cleaning it but do not have the ...

Re: 97 850 GLT, Stalls ALOT

Did you ever figure anything out with this issue?

I recently purchased a 1997 850 T5 wagon and I am having the same issues... it is periodic though which is throwing me off. Otherwise it runs awesome... I have not checked the codes yet though.

I am glad I stumbled upon this great forum!

I am a new Volvo owner, just recently purchased a 1997 Volvo T5 wagon and am really excited. I think I got a great deal on it and am really excited to learn more about these awesome cars.
