Re: Hissing with key in the on position but engine off.

My '01 makes noises under the dash on occasion. Definitely coming from the heater blower motor area and does it when stepping on the brake. I don't believe the sound is vacuum related as it will make the radio static(y) at the same time. I suspect it's a wonky ECC in my case. I can't think of any to...

Re: Camshaft Plug Removal

I never had an issue installing those plugs.

My only suggestion would be to use a factory part. Obviously make sure it's for the type of engine in your car.

I don't recall using additional sealer on the plugs as suggested above. I think it was just press-fitted in there.

This is a pretty logical explanation.
I suspect some indie. "mechanics" don't READ a factory repair manual and only rely on YouTube.

Re: engine miss, hard starting after timing belt change

Maybe the shop didn't get the timing correct during the timing belt replacement.

I'd have a hard time doing it without a camshaft holding tool.

That's wiring of some sort.
Perhaps for foglight.

Re: Starting trouble post plug wire install Topic is solved

Amazing. After 10 years of Volvo "whiteblock" ownership, I finally had a case of LMS. Admittedly, I was always skeptical of the diagnosis, but it was spot on. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes with the battery charger on it (the batt. is on borrowed time as it is), cranked with the pedal to the floor an...

Re: Now I’m considering a 2004 V40. At what point am I a “Volvo guy?”

Probably no weirder issues than any 15-year old car with 140,000 miles. Heater blower motor gets a mind of its own sometimes. VVT sprocket seal failure is probably the only unusual thing I can think of. And they usually fail around 150,000 miles. Aftermarket exhaust flex-pipes only seem to last 3 ye...

Re: Timing issue Topic is solved

For me, a camshaft holding tool makes the job easier.
Using that now on your car would require taking everything apart again.
But not sure what other choice you have at this point.

Re: car won't start and run

Are the cams turning when trying to start the car?
Have you jiggled around the AMM connector?

Re: POLL What octane gas is everyone using?

Way late to this thread, but I use 87 (R+M/2? US pump) octane in my '95 854T (258,000 miles).
One family owned and I think that's all it ever had.
