Re: Rebuild or not?
The car sits at 147k. My intent a couple years ago when I bought the car was for it to be a good second car and also the car my 17 yr. daughter will drive. I have not been in a position until now to put some money in it and get it where it needs to be. I do like it. I always said if I ever bought a ...

Re: Rebuild or not?
Thanks Klaus. I was reading on some older posts recommendations to go with the remanufactured head as well. I have found some 850T's online for sale running $3-4k. My concern is I could potentially run into the same problem with them. My thought process is by putting the resources into this one, I s...

Rebuild or not?
My 94 850 Turbo has a blown head gasket. I have gotten a lot of great feedback on here about doing the repair myself however, I do not have the time or a place to do the work. A couple Volvo shops in the area have quoted me $1200-1400 to do the head gasket. My question is: Should I go ahead and have...

Re: Engine codes from 94 850 Turbo, 147k
From what some of you have informed on above I am thinking it is the head gasket after all. I was driving to work this morning when the car started running really rough, I pulled over and put it in park. There were puffs of blue smoke coming from the tail pipe. I limped it home and parked it. I plan...

Parts list and suppliers
Ok. Thanks to some good information on the site, it looks like I will be keeping my 94 850. It does need a lot of TLC but with all the information on here and some help, I think I am up for the challenge of making it a good daily driver. My plan over time is to replace the following: Head Gasket Kit...

Re: New Volvo 850 owner
MoparConvert you may be on to something with the Volvo's reminding us of the Darts. I do love the boxy look and short rear end.

Re: Stock 850 tire size?
I have a 94 850 Turbo with what I believe to be the Columba Rims. What do the replacement rims look like? It has 205-55-16's Michelins currently. I am looking to replace the tires as they are shot. Any thoughts on a good, affordable tire?

Re: Engine codes from 94 850 Turbo, 147k
A big thanks to everyone who took the time to share a thought or an idea. This information may have helped me change my mind on selling it. I will definitely get a compression test done at another shop and talk to a mechanic friend of mine who may be able to help guide me in doing a lot of the work....

Re: Engine codes from 94 850 Turbo, 147k
When it comes to understanding the codes, I see alot of 1-1-1, 1-3-1 etc. However, the mechanic plugged in an OBD unit and the codes that came up all started with 300, 302 etc. I haven not been able to find out what those codes mean? Any ideas? 300, 302, 304, 305, 326 and 1310.

Re: Engine codes from 94 850 Turbo, 147k
If there is a head or head gasket problem is there any chance of it overheating?
