I always thought the valve blew because of a too lean injector, and wished I would have changed the injectors at 150K miles. I still have an 850 and when my son had the car, one of the injectors was flooding the engine. now it runs well with an new matched set of injectors.

this happened to me and a bolt got stuck in the block when the head was taken off, so no go on any repair.

you need to go to oreilly's and get a compression tester and test compression. one of your cylinder may have 0 pressure

reading your story make me worry about your pos. battery cable, and also the condition of the B+ cable to the fuse box. what is your batt voltage when motor is on? search voltage drop and read about the B+ cable which in all likelihood, is bad in your car.

got the head off and plan to take it to machine shop in town. where is the directions how to reset the VVT, and set the timing? have VVT on exhaust cam

well unplugged #4 injector and drove it today. started slow at 15 degrees, and ran with less power, but nice having 4 wheel drive in the snow today

well a good local machine shop will rebuild Volvo heads! I am going to buy head gasket kit and wonder, are all 12 of head bolts the same size?(the chassiss number at end of my VIN are 594432)

yeah I just got same result on cyl. 4 with the tester from oreilly's on my 99 v70xc with 170000. I always look at the oil one day after and one week after any oil change I do, or others do to my cars.
