This is a nasty smell and very hard to get rid of. I would suggest getting it detailed. Hopefully you can get the seller to help cover the cost of this. Sometimes there are filters that filter the air that comes from the air conditioning and heating. If the previous owner allowed the smoke to linger...

This can be a tricky task because you want it to look like new. You might ask your friends and family if they know of anyone. You might also check for reviews online. Have you thought about using Angie's List?

Be careful with what those codes mean. It could not be something as costly as the ECU. Note, they are fairly expensive. You might check other factors, such as the delay timer. You need to have a qualified person diagnose the problem as those codes an mean many different things!

I wonder if it is a venting problem. There should be some air allowed to pass through from behind the radio to keep it cool. I believe that they all have mini fans built into them to protect them from overheating. However, with several people feeling it, it is unlikely that there is an obstruction. ...

Would you suggest that oil in all climates and for all makes? In the Midwest, this isn't something you will typically find at the local parts store. 10w30 and 5w30 are more common.

I have had this happen to me once, and it makes perfect sense. When the air conditioner sweats or malfunctions, it will drip on the alternator. It is only a matter of time before there are issues with that. Make sure you repair the air conditioner before replacing the alternator. Otherwise, you will...
