Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

Okay, not sure if anyone is following this thread, but wanted to update it for any future online garage grease monkeys that may have a similar issue. The problem was the ETM. Essentially, it was going offline because due to what I suspect, was a short in the wire loom. I had replaced the ETM in earl...

Re: Default Do I Want This Car?

V70_R_ You have to figure though.. the moose hunting sticker is going to devalue the car so much that the car is a total write-off. PM me and I'll be happy to arrange a tow and take ownership of the obviously defunct automobile. I wont charge you for this, only because I am nice and I MAY be able to...

Re: ECM Failing

xemodex sells upgraded ETMs. They do not require any other upgrades. And by upgrade, it is only meant that it is less prone to failure, not any sort of performance part. To be clear. The ETM is an entirely different part, the throttle. The ECM is the central computer. You started this thread with a ...

Re: 2001 V70 2.4T bad ignition coil replacement...

okay... no.

I went out an bought a new MAF based on this thread and no dice. I still have a major problem. So, in my case, (failed acceleration, or useless gas pedal), when I unplugged the MAF, it had no effect on my driveability, yet the MAF was fine. Just putting that out there for reference.

Re: ECM Failing

No, the yellow sticker is for the ETM, not ECM. This is the electronic throttle module, not the engine control module. It is very common for the ETM to fail, and the yellow sticker ETMs have been dealt with to some degree (I think a software upgrade) by volvo. The white sticker ETMs are from the fac...

Re: 2001 V70 2.4T bad ignition coil replacement...

so I unplugged the MAF and the engine kept running, it should have died immediately, Seriously? I have unplugged my MAF several times with no change to engine performance. I even drove about 1 mile (in a deserted parking lot) with the MAF unplugged. Maybe I need a new MAF as well. Thanks for the ti...

Re: Brake booster repair?

My bet would be the install of the Master Cylinder was fine. I have had a hiss from the brake pedal for awhile. It is a common fault. I have heard of folks manipulating the the grommet on the booster to get more time. If the reseal does not work, you'll just have to get a new brake booster anyhow, s...

Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

Well... I have done what I can do. I finally ran out of credit with the wife, and we agreed to call a tow truck to take it to the dealer last night. During the "conversion", she used the term "White Whale". I see her point, this is turning me into a young Captain Ahab. I suppose I will try and divor...

Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

Could be that, thanks for the thought. Do you know of an easy way to diagnose that? Not sure how long it would take to take off the intercooler. I think the intake hoses are all fine.. I have taken them off and on quite a bit during the XeMODex install.

Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

idea... Could the CBV be stuck open, due to oil and crud from the clogged PCV. The PCV is sending oil back into the intake via the PTC, and that crud is hindering operation of the CBV. Would a clogged CBV result in little to no acceleration? Its pretty easy to check the CBV, so I'll probably do that...

Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

got the codes. There are none. This was with a generic code reader, so who knows if there are other volvo specific codes. I am wondering if this is related to the PCV. Could it be so clogged that it causes severe loss of power? I dont know. I am probably stuck going to the local dealer. I seem to be...

Re: Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

yes, the codes. I'll see if I can get the codes read tomorrow at the local auto shop with just a generic reader. This is such a mystery. I should mention. The car still has a plugged PCV system. Air and fumes are coming out the oil dipstick tube like mad. I did clean the banjo bolt but that did not ...

Failed Acceleration, 2001 XC70

Hi All, long time lurker, first time poster. I have been a successful garage mechanic for years, and am thinking my 2001 XC70 may be the car that forces me to retire the garage tools. Please help me diagnose this problem so I can fix my ego, and redeem my reputation in the eyes of my wife who curren...
