Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
Thanks for the info and suggestions. We will follow up on all of these, and I'll repost again with the results, hopefully positive ones.

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
So far, a mobile mechanic has diagnosed bad fuel pump, and replaced the high-pressure pump and fuel filter. He also found that there was not a consistent delivery of volts to the spark plugs, so has replaced distributor cap, rotor, and ignition cables. Nothing wrong with air cleaner. The engine stil...

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
Well, here it's been 3 weeks with my car not driveable. I've spent nearly $400 with a mobile mechanic who has confirmed the timing belt is fine, has replaced the high-pressure in-line fuel pump and fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor, and ignition cables, but still it's behaving exactly the same. Wh...

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
On a Saturday, at 1PM, there was extremely light traffic, and I could have traveled at 90 MPH had I wished to. People have a perception that Los Angeles area traffic is in a state of grid-locked bumper-to-bumper congestion 24/7, which is very far removed from reality. And I thought everyone in Amer...

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
Update: I was able to get a mobile mechanic to come out. His initial diagnosis was inadequate pressure in the fuel system, to get the fuel injectors to open up. In researching Volvo 940 replacement fuel pumps, we learned that TWO pumps are involved, a low pressure pump at the tank, and a high pressu...

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
The breaf "gurgling " noise was the fuel pump, so it might be ok. Do you have spark at one of the spark plug wires when the engine is cranked, caution if you get hit by the spark it can hurt. Does the engine crank at normal speed or faster than normal? This would be with a healthy battery...

I'm not sure what I should be listening for, but when we did this today, I heard a faint and brief gurgling sound, but no mechanical sound as I would expect to hear from a pumping mechanism.

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
Yes, I removed the top part of the timing belt cover and looked inside. The belt is intact and pulling at it, it felt that it was under good tension. What else comes to mind?jersey240 wrote:I'm not sure. But did you check to see if the timing belt is broken?

Re: My 1993 940 Stalled on Freeway, Won't Re-start
Jersey240: I removed the 3 bolts holding the top part of the timing belt cover in place, and peeked inside. The timing belt definitely looks intact, and when I pulled at it, it felt like it had good tension holding it in place. Other possible causes?
