At wits end with 1993 240 Cruise Control
Somebody, please help me with this 1993 240 Cruise Control Kafuffle. My cruise control is on the blink. Here are the symptoms. The vacuum actuator will only pull the accelerator pedal down about 1/4", even when coupled directly to the vacuum pump on the firewall, and I run the pump constantly b...

Re: Differences between XC70 10'-14' and 15'-16'
Your friend is correct. The third generation big Volvo wagons, both the V70 and XC 70, were built on the "P3" platform, and did not change significantly between 2008 and 2016. The basic 3.2L non-turbo 6 is likely the most drivable and trouble-free of the various available engine options an...

Re: Symptoms and signs of transmission troubles
Hey! Where are all the forum experts? OK, the problem has been resolved. It was a combination of dirty transmission fluid and and ignition problem at low RPM under load. The dirty trans fluid was a red herring with respect to the hesitation... totally unrelated. It was just dirty, and it took a few ...

Re: Symptoms and signs of transmission troubles
OK, there's more: I drove it around every hill and parking lot in town this morning, letting the auto-trans shift, and then manually shifting through the lower gears. The feeling that the car is hesitating or staggering on gentle inclines is definitely happening in 2nd gear, and there is a momentary...

Symptoms and signs of transmission troubles
My 2008 V70 has 137,000 miles on the clock. Over the last 2 months, it has developed what might be a transmission problem. 1. Uphill, on our driveway, at 5 mph, very little throttle applied, the car seems to be momentarily slipping or staggering. It's probably in 2nd gear. The slip is very brief, an...

Re: Planet friendly 2001 XC vs new Electric car
There are multiple components to conservation of energy and living "green'. Some are substantive, and some are not. Buying a new hybrid or e-car (or really any new car at frequent intervals) and thinking you've done your bit is just wrong. The life cycle analysis for a carbon footprint will alm...

Re: Loss of power assist in steering
OK. This problem is solved. Now, remember that this is about a 2008 Volvo V70 3.2 L, and I messed up and posted this in the wrong section of the forum. With that disclaimer, here we go: 1. The vacuum pump seals, apparently notorious on this model engine, had failed. It's directly over the serpentine...

Re: Loss of power assist in steering
Three questions: 1. Would air enter the system through a minor leak? 2. To bleed any air from the system, should I drive with the reservoir cap loose or tight? 3. Would air in the system cause the serpentine belt to slip when executing a quick turn? I just realized I started this thread under the wr...

Re: Loss of power assist in steering
I flushed the system with new OEM fluid, and then bled the system (20 times, lock-to-lock, reservoir cap off). This did not help. But, I learned more about the symptoms. 1. The vacuum pump appears to be leaking oil. It might be leaking onto the serpentine belt. 2. In the bleeding process, the serpen...

2008 V70 3.2 Loss of power assist in steering
Happy holidays! My 2008 V70 3.2L six cyl has the following symptoms: 1. Slight loss of fluid. Topped off to "cold" mark now 2. Loss of power assist in more than minimal turn while stopped 3. Loss power assist if rapid turn attempted in motion 4. Power assist seems fine when executing slow ...
