Re: Why I hate my 2000 V70R!

11 cents per mile (in my case) may not sound bad if everything worked as it should, there were no leaks, there were no weird noises, etc. For me, it's not so much the cost of ownership, but the combination of the cost and the time spent. The time spent working on the car has really worn me down, esp...

Re: Why I hate my 2000 V70R!

I absolutely feel your pain as I am in deep on the 1998 S70 GLT that I have. I paid $3000 US for the car 7 years ago and have put more than that into it doing 90 percent of the work myself. I have put 70k miles on it, so cost per mile would be high. Right now the car is worth, maybe, around $1200 or...

Re: Another Rack and Pinion post

I have been working on it slowly taking my time. I am cutting the lines at the nuts and I have the two out that were in the rack. Next I will be tackling the two on the pinion which I can get pretty good access to through the fender well. Abscate... Yes, you must be careful driving on 34 through tow...

Re: Another Rack and Pinion post

I started soaking the hard line nuts with Kroil and put a wrench on the first one that was easiest to access on the rack and after all the flakes fell off the line nut it is now smaller than it should be making it a size that is not metric or imperial. I am starting to wonder if it is worth my effor...

Another Rack and Pinion post

1998 S70 GLT with 192,000 miles on it, bought it with 130,000 miles. One of the hard lines on the rack blew out due to rust, luckily it happened when I pulled in my driveway coming home from work, not so lucky for my driveway as it made a huge mess. I shut off the car immediately when I heard the fi...

Re: What did you do to your Volvo today?

I removed the oil cooler lines with the intention of rebuilding, but after inspecting the tubing that the hoses are attached to, ended up being too rusty from upstate New York winters to rebuild, also 18 years old with 190k miles. Ordered new OEM lines, which is what I was trying to avoid. None avai...

Re: Help me diagnose power steering problem

I had a heavy steering issue and it ended up being the "u-joint" on the steering shaft (engine side of the firewall). I spray it with lube every time I service the car and it stays nice and free.

Re: 1998 V70 key will not turn

I would say yes, cut the bottom of the assembly and I bet a broken piece will fall right out. At least, that's what happened for me on our 1998 S70.

Re: 98 V70 AWD P0172 and O2 Sensor

I too had the P0172 code on my '98 S70 GLT and it took weeks to figure out it was the cat plugging up. I never had a cat efficiency code thrown which was weird. Hopefully, this is not the case for you. Based on some research that I did for a friend that does have a cat efficiency code, the rear O2 s...

Re: 98 V70 AWD OBDII Ready Status

I think it will reset soon. My S70 took between 2 to 3 weeks for the system monitors to reset. I have a Pontiac Bonneville and that will reset in a couple of days. It can be frustrating!
