Re: Check Engine Light after Camshaft seal replacement

Ok so I am pulling off the engine mount and other obstructions to get to the rear side of the cams in just a few minures. I will make sure they are horizontal and line up the crank. From there if the sprocket I had to remove is slightly askew, I will line it up the the timing mark. The sproket I had...

Re: Check Engine Light after Camshaft seal replacement

One tooth off it will run fine, but WILL throw that code Somehow you managed to knock it off a tooth Reading up on timing belts being off a tooth and it makes sense to me that this is the problem. So the solution? Is it as simple as lining it up in tdc best as possible and removing the belt and shi...

Re: Check Engine Light after Camshaft seal replacement

Coflynn:
I will be picking up a code reader today, so should have an exact code in a bit. I will check the solenoid, but I don't think I did much around there.

Chrism: I tend to agree that the timing is the likely culprit, but wouldn't it be running poorly? I don't hear any misses or anything.

Check Engine Light after Camshaft seal replacement

I had a previous post about an oil leak that turned out to be a blown out front cam seal. I replaced the seal and was careful not to move the cams or crankshaft, but when finished the check engine light came on within 10 miles. I had it checked, but the shop did not give me the specific code. He did...

Re: *Update/Awaiting help* Need help with complete oil loss/

Not sure why I can not edit this post again, but I did find a resolution to the oil leak. I pulled the seal that Volvo had given me and it turns out it was the wrong one. It did not look significantly different in size, but it was the one for the VVT side, not the other side. I replaced the seal, bu...

Re: Need help with complete oil loss/leak *Update

I took the last couple hours to try and clean up pretty thoroughly. When finished I put a couple quarts of oil in and started the car up. It took awhile for anything to happen, but I found the leak. It appears to be coming from the camshaft closest to the front of the car. I can't see the leak, but ...

*Update/Need advice on complete oil loss/leak

UPDATE: I replaced the seal, behind it I found dried oil and cleaned it out with q-tips and parts cleaner until it was completely clean. I put the new seal purchased from Volvo today in using my hands then lightly tapping it in using the old seal behind a 3/8 extension. I was careful and didn't appl...

Re: Should I replace this timing belt?

Thank you for the quick replies. I'll order the belt and pump today. Any need for the kit with the crank and cam seals?

Should I replace this timing belt?

First time posting to the forum, and I want to start by thanking everyone for all the information. With this site I was able to fix an intermittent A/C problem, replace the entire strut assembly, do a pcv job, and a few other things. Yesterday, while driving home on the freeway, my car began to lose...
