The antenna ring issue will present with the car starting normally and then dieing a second or so later. It will also post a P code, P1081 I think, but the CEL will not necessarily come on. Your problem sounds more like a fuel pump or fuel pump relay problem. The relay gets intermittent as it dies....

If you think it needs cleaned, just replace it. Check the oil every 500 miles and see what's going on. As long as you don't let it run low you should be ok.
