Re: front wiper motor xc70 2006

I'm pretty sure those are how the manufacturer balanced the armature. Every armature is balanced individually, so each will have a different pattern of gouges. You can even see them in the picture on wikipedia for 'armature (electrical)'. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armature_(electrical) https://h...

Re: 2004 XC70 remove steering rack - help with final steps

Are you 100% sure you can't replace those lines without removing the rack? I was able to do it in my V70 this summer, but of course there was no angle gear in the way. I had the rack completely loose by dropping the outer tie rod end links, removing the motor mount (I used the HF engine support bar)...

Re: P442 (Evap Leak)

I don’t know anything about the evap leak, but I own this $115 iCarSoft i906 code reader: https://www.amazon.com/iCarsoft-i906-Compatible-Diagnostic-Multi-System/dp/B00S8KJHBM/ It works ok. If I had known about the V2 version I think I would have bought it instead, for only another $30 https://www.a...

Re: Sticker shock: motor mounts

I think there is a lot more engineering in that mount than I appreciated before. The aftermarkets just fill the metal with a glob of polymer and then you get massive transmission of vibration direct to the front windshield cowl The OE version, the rubber is not fit or bonded to the metal, the torqu...

Re: Sticker shock: motor mounts

… - Right now, if you go to ebay and enter "Hutchinson 30680770", you will see "partscontainer" sells it for $50. - Likewise, rmeuropean lists: * Febi brand $25 (when dealing with febi, search forum, it is hit-or-miss in terms of QC. For this particular item, Febi 30680770 is ma...

Sticker shock: motor mounts

Two years ago I bought the IPD poly upper torque mount for my new-to-me XC70, it increased cabin vibrations, so I think I actually threw it away along with their poly stabilizer link bushings. I also bought new Hutchinson mounts for the main 3, but since I had wasted $50 on the poly mount I skimped ...

Re: Project 2007 S60 2.5T

The most expensive part of my turbo failure was the tow home, at 3x the parts cost. The turbo gave me a solid 150 miles warning, but unfortunately I was 190 miles from home plus I didn’t know the dentist drill whine was abnormal. It turns out without this forum I know nothing about how my car works!...

Re: Project 2007 S60 2.5T

I just did this job too. The damaged vanes on my unit were contacting the aluminum intake scroll and the cast iron exhaust scroll, as far as I could tell only the vanes were damaged, both housings were fine. I bought my reman core on eBay ($100US), it came from LA with a balance certificate from a T...

Re: 14T turbo on a 2001 v70xc?

After 15 minutes of driving, half in town and half on a 55mph road, the oil in the intake manifold seems to have burned off and the car feels great. It easily makes 1350 hPa boost (my iCarSoft only measures in hPa, I gather this is roughly 5 psi above atmospheric). Once it spiked up to 1400 hPa (6 p...
