I recently parted a 96 N/A wagon for the 5 speed. You're welcome to the head or the whole motor if you want it. Easy get, the body is gone and it's sitting on the subframe outside my shop door where the air line will reach. I drove it here, but it didn't run all that well. Condition-wise it's a rebu...

My wife said it is "doing it again", so I pulled the angle gear unit yesterday thinking the splines were not good enough to last with the new collar. Re: 2004 XC70 occasional shudder under part throttle

Well none of the extra measures I was considering to get the sleeve out were necessary. I decided to grind a couple of slots in the sleeve for a puller to grab. I got the air chisel on it to peel out some metal to reduce grinding time and saw the sleeve move a little. I put the air chisel on an angl...

Maybe get a couple bestest most gooder pictures of the leak/area. Those pics you posted help to show you have a leak, but don’t really tell a whole lot else (to me). A few more observations. After a few hours to cool, I put in a charged, known good, battery. Starts right up, runs smoothly and normally. Only obvious problem is that alternator light comes on below 1000 rpm. 3-4 minutes later, engine runs roughly, rpms drop and it quits. I seem to have about 6 vol...

Hi all, I have a 96 850 T. I charged the A/C and it had cold air for a day or two but leaked out and the compressor stopped engaging. The only thing lower than that are the oil cooler hoses under the bottom pulley. The turbo oil lines on the back of the block are lower too but rarely leak as they are steel with copper washers and wouldn't leave oil in the timing cover area anyway. I too would bet on a cam seal.

Re: 96 850 turbo no spark, most of the time Topic is solved

Well I finally pulled this one off the back row and it's back in the shop. Still no spark and still looking for the reason. (tried multiple cam and crank sensors last time). I did a sensor ready test with my obd2 scanner and all show grey on the screen. They don't show 'not ready' or 'ready', just g...

Re: 96 850 not starting sometimes

After truning over, remove a spark plug and see if it is wet or smells like fuel. If so, you might have no spark. Otherwise not enough fuel. There is also a good chance that it is the engine coolant temp sensor. If it is faulty you might get a no start situation. Anybody got more on the coolant tem...

Re: P80 Burned Valve Discussion Thread - attendant with Data set

Upon cleaning things up I found numbers around the tip of the valve stem. I pulled out an old head I know was from a turbo and robbed a valve. It differed only by one number. donor valve stamp - 'N5 1366490 UT'. The ones out of the head I'm doing - '05 1366490 UT'. Also all valves in the failed head...

Re: P80 Burned Valve Discussion Thread - attendant with Data set

I decided to do this head myself instead of sending it out and took all the valves out tonight. The cause of the burned valve was evident as soon as I got the head apart. Several of the other exhaust seats were black in spots, not silver. Black on a valve seat indicates no contact with the valve in ...

850s are very satisfying to own, fun to drive and solid. A little quirky to troubleshoot but once you get the hang of it I think you will agree it's worth it. If you hit something in that Civic it would fold up like a paper bag.

burned valve.jpg I bought a 96 850 Turbo with a burned exhaust valve in #2. The one in the finned cooler could be a match, but you'll have to remove it so we can see where the o-ring sits on the back of it. I may just use my bypass connector on the oil cooler side for now and put it back together so I can free up that bay in my shop without pushing it around.

People stand in line for my drain oil. I will generally only put it in lawn equipment though. The boat alone yields up 9 quarts of 20-50 Amsoil racing stuff every spring that only has 1 tank (60 gal) of gas's use on it. The cheap or dirty stuff gets used to start bonfires.

Broken head bolt

Anybody have any luck getting the last 1 1/4 inch of threads out when a head bolt breaks off in the block?

Re: 96 850 turbo no spark, most of the time Topic is solved

Hi all, I'm back to looking at this one. I found this: The ECM delivers the 5V reference and the CMP sensor grounds it to yield the 0V for that crank revolution. The CMP signal is needed by ECM to sort the firing order. 5 cylinders do not fire the various cylinders at the same location relative to t...

Re: 98 V70 MOOG front wheel bearings

My AP guy told me Federal Mogul bought Moog some time ago. Either makes good quality parts, I would use a Moog part without hesitation.

Re: '96 Platinum Wagon: broken timing belt. 7:18am Topic is solved

One of mine has oil in the coolant. The cause turned out to be the oil cooler in the radiator ruptured. I only mention it because you had a low oil event first. Did you ever determine where the oil went? Pull the oil lines from the radiator, plug one water hose and pressurize the other, you may see ...

Re: I want to rebuild my 850 GLT.

At 185xxx I would bet your short block is fine and not in need of a rebuild, leave that alone. The brown dipstick being caused by a head gasket is possible but not probable, your call. I'd probably go ahead since you are not on a schedule and call it preventive. If you peel the head and put valve gu...

Ok...But OP is working with a turbo. So the kit you linked to wouldn't work.

Thanks for pointing that out, I missed it. I wasn't trying to jack the thread just thought it was a good place to put clutch info.

Let it sit overnight with the battery disconnected and then put a jumper between the pos and neg cables to be sure. Plugged into OBD and powered it up with key in position II. I thought my fuel trim would now be zero as there has been no run time. Oh, and the DTC is 1310 Follow up: Found a missing c...

Re: Clutches pressure plates and flywheels

So, 96 GLT sedan n/a bought after some kid put a clutch in wrong and it wouldn't release all the way. Thought I would find a bent clutch fork but instead the throwout bearing was punching past the ends of the spring fingers. It looks like the wrong one maybe because it seems to be just barely bigger...

This is what I'm leaning towards. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-clutch-kit-850-s70-v70-k70110-01 Have not seen flywheel surface yet but I'm hoping to re-use it.
That's an n/a clutch. http://www.tascaparts.com/oe-volvo/272218 Then, get the throw out bearing you need.
The GLT ...

Re: Clutches pressure plates and flywheels

I don't see that part listed anywhere Dealer only? Anyone replaced one? Zero internal manual transmission parts available anywhere. Many people tried, zero succeed finding anything. Pivot arm and boot you might be able to get from the dealer. Call and find out. My pivot arm looks ok, turns out the ...

Re: 1996 850 rough running, bad FI 2, bad ECU....That rare occasion when it IS the computer

Especially if you are doing upkeep on several P80 cars, having a parts car saves you tons of time and money as compared to going the junkyard. Once you actually try it, you will understand. Easier, faster, cheaper. The drawback for me is deciding how long I want to have a shell of a car hanging aro...

Re: 1996 850 rough running, bad FI 2, bad ECU....That rare occasion when it IS the computer

I did the reset but must have not waited long enough. Disconnected battery, engaged starter, depressed brake pedal for good measure and hoked it back up. Long term fuel trim still read 21.5% so it didn't clear the memory. Drove car and short term fuel trim fluctuated between -17 under load to +27 un...
