Now I have to take one out of another vehicle with an automatic transmission. Should I take engine out by itself or with the transmission?

I am going to remove the engine our of my 1989 240DL. I have a manual, but it seems that some things are not there. It does not mention to remove the engine bolts from the transmission. Mine is a manual 4 speed. I think it would be better for me to pull engine without having to pull the transmission...
