My first thought would be the neutral safety switch. That only applies if it's an auto... The next time it happens, try rattling the shifter a bit.

I got my left axle shaft from Detroit Axle. It was exactly the same as my OEM. There was no rebuilding the OEM shaft cause it had been driven for who knows how long by the PO. I think changing the oil at appropriate intervals is the only maintenance the previous owner had done. Not sure about the last 60k miles, but I think it has a Mahle on there right now.

That is with the serpentine belt off? My advice based on a recent 98 v70 awd purchase... Buy an obd2 scanner and verify the car is in a "ready" stage when you test drive it. If not, it tells you the codes have been recently reset and will, most likely, pop up a week after you buy the car.

It's very easy to check the fuel pump relay. Just warm it up inside and pop it back in. It's a common failure point in extreme cold temps.

Edit - just now saw that your plugs are soaked, so you can prob disregard my thoughts above.

If unplugged, the car should run on a default set of fuel maps. If it starts and runs, it means your maf is bad (or, less likely, you have a huge leak after the maf). It takes 10 secs, so definitely worth trying.

No problem. I'm not exactly sure what you have replaced/checked as I feel like this thread has gone in a couple of different directions, but I would do the following (if you haven't already): Disconnect the AFM and try to start the car. The car should run on internal maps with it disconnected. Recon...

Re: Trac, coolant, and abs lights on won't shift pass 2nd ge

Thanks for the new info. That definitely helps. I would suggest picking up a Scan Gauge II or something similar, so you can monitor (most of) the sensors. For instance, when the car has been sitting all night, it would be good to verify that the water temp and intake air temp sensors are reporting c...

That's what people told me and it was actually a problem with the fuel injectors. With that said... if he reports back that his car starts right back up after shutting it off, then I'll agree it's most likely the check valve. 20 seconds seems like a long time though... it shouldn't take that long fo...

Re: Trac, coolant, and abs lights on won't shift pass 2nd ge

20 seconds is a LONG time. If your battery is strong enough to crank the car for 20 seconds, then it's probably fine... I'm assuming it's cranking at a normal/quick pace. What happens if you shut the car off and immediately try to start it back up? Does it take 20 seconds of cranking again or does i...

No problem. The car seemed to start most of the time when the outside air temp was cool, so it seemed logical that one or more of the injectors were leaking when warm/hot.

Sorry for the slow response/update. I decided to patch the line in place and not run a new line to the fuel filter. I used 1 "push in union" w/ 2 clamps to connect a new piece of fuel line to the stock line. I then just re-installed the check valve. I did have to use 2 new nylon "washers" for the va...

V70 - What is actual operating temp range? scan gauge users?

I'm curious what range of temps other people see (if they have a way to measure)... I've got a new 90c thermostat in the car. I typically see about 193f when driving, but the temps will creep up to 215 or higher when the car is idling for an extended period of time. BTW, My temp gauge sits at 3 o'cl...

Just closing up this thread. It was definitely the injectors that fixed the problem. Re: How do nylon fuel hoses connect to hard pipes (98 v70 AW

I don't think so. The fuel line is actually incorporated in to the housing for the FPR and I don't think it would be possible to securely clamp a line on to the housing as it's plastic. I would guess you are probably dealing with close to 100 psi between the pump and the FPR and I wasn't able to fin...

Just coming back to close this one up. The original stock part includes the hard lines and the FPR enclosure, so you can't just order the lines and I assume the nylon fuel line is molded to the hard lines. Volvo no longer makes or carries the part. I had to order some SUR&R parts to patch the line. ...

I should be able to replace the lines with parts from fuelsender.com.

Does anyone have an extra fuel filter sitting around? Is the outlet 3/8"? I know the nylon line is 5/16", but it seems like the filter was larger.

Are you sure? I just double-checked and the FPR line definitely runs to a port just to the rear of the filter box and AFM. The vacuum tree located near the throttle body has 5 small ports. 4 are capped and 1 runs to a white/black check valve towards the front of the car.
