Re: Rear end collission! Repair advice needed.

A high quality body shop gave me a repair quote of almost $7000. That was for an "insurance quality" job including a complete new quarter panel (both door tops), new frame rail, repainting used parts, etc. There are ways to lower the price, such as getting my own used parts in matching colors. One l...

Re: Rust protection improvement

I'm concerned about large scale rust protection, such as coating the entire underside of a car. A "quick and dirty" body shop once suggested that they could spray large sections of the car with POR 15. I've had mixed results with it, where it has been solid on my rusted heat shield for years but sim...

Re: Rear end collission! Repair advice needed.

I finally got my lovely Columba wheel checked at a wheel repair shop. They showed me how it's 20/1000" out of round at the impact site, only on the inside of the wheel. Thanks, those pictures are really helpful. That last picture of the bumper mount shows my biggest problem. To test these things, do I put the negative multimeter probe on the battery negative post? That relies on grounding cables, not revealing if the + or - wire is the issue. Sounds like I should start testing at the battery and work my way farther from it.

Re: Warning, Replace your cooling system hoses ASAP

Ten years ago, something caused my V70 to dump all of its coolant. Maybe a failed hose, failed clamp, or as the dealership told me, excessive pressure in the system. Regardless, I didn't stop right away and the engine overheated to destruction. I paid about $10k to have a used engine installed. Now ...

Re: OEM Exhaust rusted after four years. Recommendations?

Is it possible that my exhaust is rotting prematurely due to unburnt fuel passing into the exhaust? Or could it be because my 18 year old catalytic converter is not functioning properly? My OEM exhaust rusted out after only four years. Am I the only one surprised by this lack of quality? Which replacement stainless steel exhausts do you recommend? What part of the caliper would cause them to seize so easily? Currently, one of my front calipers is seized a little bit closed.

I will be doing this overhaul procedure on all of my calipers. This is such a great car, but the brakes have been a problem for years.

I found a local Volvo specialist to look at this issue. They think the piston rings may be stuck, allowing oil to slip by. When I took the car to a dealership around 2012, they replaced the freon. They found nothing unusual during the process. A/C compressor cycling every few seconds, now dead

Hello, I finally must repair the dead A/C in my 2000 V70. Back around 2009-2014, the A/C blew nice and cold, but the compressor would click every eight seconds. My 2000 V70 with 250k miles has had coolant under the front driver's carpet for a while now. I'm not sure when it happened since my coolant level is at max. Re: 1998 V70 ignition key goes round and round - no start

This recently started happening to my 2000 V70, which may be a slightly different design. For me, the key spins freely only when the steering wheel lock is engaged AND the wheel is pressing against the lock. The short answer is, turn the steering wheel a little bit and then try the key again. Better...

Re: 1993 245 - Weld vs clamp on exhaust pipes

Do you think the following solution is feasible, and possible for me, who's non-mechanical and has no lift: 1. Cut off the current welded section of pipe, loosing another ~1.5". 2. Add a ~3" piece of pipe, replacing the two ~1.5" sections lost from cutting off welds, releasing the strain on the hang...

Re: 1993 245 - Weld vs clamp on exhaust pipes

The repair was bad, so now I have to deal with it. They cut the old welded pipe, shortening it. To recover that ~1.5", they pulled the muffler pipe toward the front of the car (and welded it again). This put a strain on the rubber hangers, which no longer hang straight down, but are pulled forward. ...
