WTB - 97/98 LPT Motor Pistons

Hi - I'm looking for standard size pistons to fit a 1997 / 1998 B5254T (vin code "56" LPT engine). I'm not sure if any other years will fit. These are the 9.0 compression ratio, 83mm bore. Apparently they are no longer available new from Volvo. I need two pistons - one fitment code "D...

Re: 1998 V70 GLT Piston Skirt Damage

An update is in order. The Blackstone oil analysis showed no elevated levels of metals in the oil sample so it was likely an older failure. And the engine shop tells me there is no bending or difference in lengths of the five rods. So - the plan is to do a light hone on the cylinders and rebuild the...

1998 V70 GLT Piston Skirt Damage

(cross posted on sw___speed - same thread title) Hi - I am the original owner of a 1998 V70 GLT (LPT motor), bone stock with no engine performance upgrades. It now has about 250K miles on it and has been meticulously maintained and nothing but Mobil 1 has been used every 5000 miles since new. It has...

Re: Driving with a burned exhaust valve

With 20K on my 98 GLT engine post rebuild, all is well. Like erik11, if I had it to do over again, I would source used exhaust valves, but the machine shop work was worth every penny.

Re: Annoying squeaking from load cover in V70

I have an annoying squeak in the rear of my wagon as well - but I've traced it to the rear seatback. The squeak goes away when the seats are folded down. Perhaps your load cover is pushing against the seatback making it squeak when it the load cover is installed? Try folding the seats down and insta...

Re: Air conditioning system questions not answered elsewhere

Bumping this because I have the same issue on the 98 V70 that noev70T5 has. The compressor runs continuously. The refrigerant charge is good and the electronic climate control does what it needs to to maintain the cabin temperature. I'm convinced I can make ice in the cabin. Probably related - on su...

Re: Volvo S70 replace wheel bearing, metal glue?!

Erik has it exactly right. Apply anti-sieze on clean axle splines. No products of any type anywhere else - except red thread locker is recommended on the bolts that hold the caliper brackets to the knuckle. I also use a VERY light coating of grease between the bearing and the rotor and the rotor and...

Re: Hub Issue

My experience with bad hubs was a roaring noise that increased with speed and changed tone when the steering wheel was turned (shifting the weight of the car from side to side). Start with the axle. While it is out check for play in the CV joints. If you can feel play or the boots look dried out, it...

^^^ same. Swapping the assembly was time consuming, but not overly difficult.

Re: Became a two Volvo guy..

I don't pretend to understand the psychology of women, but here's your plan: - give wife the "puppy dog eyes" look as you tell her that you appreciate her buying the car with an eye for your son's safety, but you're concerned that getting everything fixed on it will take time and that will...
