It may not be heavy but the thought of trying to line the transmission up with the engine still in the car sounds like a nightmare.
I used a ratcheting strap off of the engine support to take the weight, it was surprisingly easy to line it up going back in.

Re: Preparing to Replace Clutch & RMS

I've replaced the clutch by dropping the transmission out of the bottom and I've also swapped an engine by pulling the engine along with the transaxle out of the top. If you have an engine hoist and a stand it is six of one and half a dozen of the other in terms of time and grief. I did both by myse...

Re: '98 V70 Serpentine Belt Tensioner Shredding Timing Cover?

Let me add to that buy only INA that comes in a blue Volvo box from a known source. The market is flooded with counterfeit INA rollers and they do exactly what your issue is, make the belt track incorrectly. Avoid "OEM supplier or OEM Vendor" parts when it comes to that part.

Re: Flywheel installation, Volvo 850

Does the IAC valve buzz when you put the key in position II? The master fuel system relay, which is mounted on the radiator shroud, provides voltage for the injectors and also the IAC valve. If the IAC valve isn't buzzing it is a dead giveaway. Usually the relay is OK but the way the wiring harness ...

Re: 1998 Volvo S70 Base No Click, No Crank

The test you made showing battery voltage at the starter wire with the key in position III does indicate that the PNP is OK. I have run across some rebuilt starters that have more than one spade terminal on the solenoid and that one works and the other doesn't. I have no idea why unless the second t...

Re: 1996 850R Odometer stops and works intermittently

When it is the ABS module the Speedometer and the Odometer go out together. Depending on which version of the cluster you have it might be the pins to the PC board behind the odometer motor. There is one version where the motor has a wire pigtail that plugs into the main instrument cluster circuit b...

Re: Long Cranking Time on 99 S70 GLT

The check valve is located in the fuel pump cartridge itself. If you only replaced the pump itself and reused the housing (which is typical) then it won't fix a bad check valve. If you are not holding pressure at the rail then the only options are to change the fuel pump cartridge or add a check val...

Re: 1998 V70XC Propeller Shaft Recommendations needed...

They aren't necessarily cheap but I haven't heard of any complaints from the service from Colorado Drive Shaft. I bought a junk yard core and was getting ready to send it to them when my first XC got wrecked. Just dumb luck that I hadn't already sent it off.

Volvo People are the Best.

The XC ate the bearings in the starter Bendix a couple of weeks ago and it has been so cold that I just gave my wife the Suburban until it got above freezing so I could change it in the driveway. It warmed up enough today to swap a starter from the parts car into it. The battery was pretty dead so I...

Re: a whole lot of swapping going on (locost build, awd swap, trans swaps, etc)

The XC transmission is not really compatible with a FWD car. The right hand axle will fit in but there is a collar that goes between the transmission and the transfer case and without that collar the axle won't seal and all the ATF just runs out. There is also a second mount on the XC transmission b...
