Maintainence 2008 S40
Need 2 questions answered....how much fluid goes into the power steering resevoir? i find no "full" mark on the resevior. If I put my finger in as far as I can reach, I feel fluid. Should I add more? The factory battery (US model)....does the top come off somehow to check water level or is...

Is the battery on the 2008 permanently sealed or is there a way of checking it?
Thanks, Mark

Re: 2008 s40 power steering fluid resivour
Because of the way that the power steering resevior is hidden it's had to tell how much to fill it. Are we supposed to just dunk our finger or is there some other way to judge the level?
Thanks, Mark

Re: S40-V40
Thank you for the information. Is it the newer S40's that have the 5 cylinder or another model all together? Also, do you think the S40 is about the size of my old 240 or is it smaller?

Re: 2001 S40 Transmission "slipping"
Not sure if the S40 has a kick down cable for the transmission or not. If it does, then most likely the cable is sticking. This is an automatic, right? Very common on the older 240's.

S40-V40
I am just getting rid of a 240 and I have a few questions on the S/V40... Do they all have the 5 cylinder engine? How do they compare in size with the 240 that I have? Can regular gas be used without harm or does hi-test have to be used? On the S40 is there some kind of a "pass-through" in...

Re: 240 Front brakes pulling
Bill, Thank you. I hadn't considered bad pins as being a possible cause. I will disassemble and clean or replace things that could cause binding. Anther link had an article on worn control arm bushings "giving the steering wheel an actual jerk when the brakes are first applied." Not sure t...

Re: Volvo 240 DL Wagon 1986: New Here!
Both NAPA and Sears automotive carry the remover that looks exactly like the Volvo tool. They are both the same brand. It's cheaper through Sears....about $42+ shipping. If you are replacing the tie rods ends in this case it might not make too much difference, but the tools that work by wedging some...

240 Front brakes pulling
1992 240 with about 190,000 miles. When applying the brakes, the car pulls to the left. It's definitley a front brake problem. I've checked tire pressure and wheel bearing torque. I've visually checked both front brakes and the pads are about 1/2 worn and there is no leaking fluid visible. It seems ...

240 Steering noise
Bill, I wrote before concerning a bumpy feeling in the steering wheel when I turned it. Well, it went away. The problem only developed after I had disconnected the tie rod end from the steering arm. My theory is: the car was on a lift for about a week with one tie rod disconnected at the steering ar...
