Thanks for the info. i did have the throttle body cleaned when the ETM was upgraded. Any other ideas you can offer would be appreciated. It is really more an annoyance than anything else. My previous car was a Nissan Maxima with an engine and tranny that was smooth as silk.

Just a question related to what is normal as far as idle goes. Car is new to me and still trying to feel it out. FYI

Thanks....I've been to Don's site...great info about the extended warrenty etc. It is my understanding that until recently the software upgrade for the defective ETM was a voluntary action by Volvo and not a "recall", although there has been an ongoing NTSB recall investigation. I checked ...

I just heard the ETM software upgrade is now part of an "official" NTSB recall...........although the replacement of the defective part does not seem to be part of the deal.

Just to clarify, the clunk is very brief and metallic sounding, maybe a second at most. Just one loud clank, then I go on my way and all is fine until I park it for a several hours again.
