Thanks for the reply, very helpful.

I have replaced the belt, the tensioner, the idler and the water pump.

It is just the issue of the timing that needs to be sorted.

I suspect I will need to remove the timing belt, gently readjust the to cogs and replace the the belt. I think they ...

Will moving the crank a full turn without the belt on cause grief or do I just line the marks on the top pulleys again and reinstall the belt?

Can the tensioner be used again?

The belt is on the car.

When I started the car and drove a short distance the engine light came on with the codes in the original post.

So unfortunately the crank was turned on revolution when the belt was off to align the marks on the crank with the block.

Is that likely to cause a problem ...

Changed the timing belt and the water pump on turbo petrol Volvo yesterday.

I have successfully done this before on another model.

So following the work the P0016 and P0017 codes came up.

So this is what happened

I lined up all the marks both up the top and down the bottom on the crank ...

Had the Electrical System Service Message come up on my car along with surging of the engine and lights dimming and brightening with the surging.

My research tell me that it is likely to be the Voltage Regulator or the Alternator.

I checked the PCV last night using the glove test. All seemed to be OK although I am aware that it is not a definitive test. I also had a good look around the top of the engine and there was no oil evident anywhere I looked so it seems to be coming from lower down. Hmmm what next. I think a visit ...

So on the weekend I will check the PCV using the glove test. This will determine whether I need to replace that because I am guessing that it may the cause of the crook RMS. Replacing it may even to some extent delay the replacement of the seal too although I suspect that it has gone to God anyway ...
